MakeMe Furniture Painting - Shabby Chic
Experience required: None
Tutor: Jo Mabbutt
Course length: 3 hours
Cost: £50.00Learn how to give well loved but tired pieces a new lease of life using Scandinavian and French decorating techniques. Achieve that purposely distressed look that is so fashionable and do your own pieces at home rather than pay hundreds of pounds for a similar piece on the High Street!
Our expert tutor will teach you how to apply traditional chalk paints to achieve your desired finish. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with some ageing and distressing techniques to produce antiqued traditional finishes including painting, colour-washing, distressing and varnishing.
In this workshop you will paint and take home your very own serving tray finished in your chosen colour and style. You will have had the opportunity to practice on several pieces of moulding to perfect your technique! In addition, you will take home a workshop pack which will give you all the information you need to tackle a piece at home.
All materials, equipment and instruction are included and tea, coffee and homemade cake will be served.

Tutor: Jo Mabbutt
Course length: 3 hours
Cost: £50.00Furniture Painting continues to be one of MakeMe's most popular workshops so we are pleased to offer a follow-on class.
* This workshop is for those who have attended our Shabby Chic session or have experience doing basic furniture painting. This is a wonderful chance to add to your skills!
Our expert tutor will teach you how to use glazes and waxes to produce naturally antiqued finishes which you will sample on pieces of wooden moulding. Additional distressing and finishing techniques will also be covered. You will also learn simple hand painting techniques and stencilling which can also be used to start off for those who are reluctant to go straight into freehand painting.
Once the techniques have been mastered you can choose to either decorate the tray you completed in your previous furniture painting workshop with us or to paint and decorate a lovely scalloped planter measuring 44w X 13d X 12h cm (unpainted planter shown in photograph).
As in our previous workshop, you will take home a set of detailed notes that includes all the techniques covered and our supplier recommendations.
All materials, equipment and instruction are included and tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

Course length: 3 hours
Cost: £80.00A garden that is designed especially for you will completely change the way you feel about it. You might be a keen gardener who knows oodles about plants, but how do you tackle the basic structure of the garden which will elevate it from a nice garden to an amazing garden?
Alternatively, you may be new to gardening, have a new garden that has been ignored for years and just don’t know how to start turning it from a lawn and 4 fences into an outside room that you love to spend time in.
This hands-on course will give you the basic garden design skills you’ll need to be able to tackle your own garden. Lisa will talk you through the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of good design and give you tips that will help you to develop your own garden when you get home. You’ll also have the opportunity to put pencil to paper and practice what you’ve learned.
The course will include:
- How to take your own design brief
- Understanding your personal style and applying this to your own garden design
- Getting started – how to move from a blank piece of paper to the finished design
- Putting what you’ve learned into practice – a chance to get drawing whilst Lisa is on hand to help
- Basic design principles – helping you to get it right
- 2 weeks email support following the course
- Coffee and home-made cake
