Hopefully the answers to all your questions are set out below. If not, contact us and we’ll try to help.
General
What is the maximum number you can take in a scheduled workshop?
There is usually a maximum of 8 people in a workshop. This is so we can keep it fun and friendly. For private parties we could take up to 10 depending on the activity.
Do I need to bring anything?
Generally, all materials and equipment are supplied. If we think you need to bring something, you we would have set this out in the workshop description you read before booking. If you would like to bring your own equipment please feel free to do so but we would appreciate it if you could let us know first.
Can I bring my own sewing machine?
Of course. We would simply ask that you let us know first and that you arrive a few minutes early to set up.
Are your workshops suitable for children?
The workshops listed on this site are for adults of all ages. Teenagers are also welcome. We do run workshops specifically for children during some school holidays. Unfortunately, due to health and safety restrictions, we are unable to allow children under 12 to accompany you on a workshop. We would be pleased to discuss your requirements for a children’s party.
I’ve never sewn before or I don’t have any craft experience. Can I still come along?
Of course! At the moment all our workshops are suitable for beginners (although they also allow scope for the more advanced to do more intricate work.) Our tutors are experienced in teaching you the skills you need to progress and soon you will be able to complete projects of your own at home.
Where do the workshops take place?
The workshops take place in the old Tool Room of the Medicine Garden in Cobham, Surrey (see Contact Us for a map). The studio is a beautiful and inspiring creative space. Photographs are available to view in the Photo Gallery.
Workshop dates – when is the next [insert name of workshop] running?
Workshop dates are listed both on the calendar and underneath each workshop description. We are constantly adding workshops to the calendar. If you would like to keep in the loop sign up for our newsletter.
Workshop request
If you would like to see a particular workshop on MakeMe’s calendar, please contact us. We want to know!
Booking
How do I book?
The easiest way is to book online. Browse our workshop list and click on those that interest you. This will take you to the full workshop description where there are ‘book now’ buttons. You can pay online with a credit card, debit card or a PayPal account. Although PayPal is the payment service we use, it is NOT necessary to have a PayPal account in order to book online.
You can also telephone us and we can log onto the site for you and take payment. (Please note, that we usually can’t answer the phone if a workshop is in session.) You can also drop in and pay in person with cash, cheque or credit/debit card (the latter via the payment system on our website.) Full payment is required in advance.
Can I just turn up on the day?
No. We need time to prepare the materials and advise the tutors of numbers in advance. Please look at the ‘places available’ information which is listed under each workshop. This will tell you whether there are spaces or not. If the workshop is in the next 24 hours, please call to check whether we can accommodate you (we usually can but need to prepare!)
Cancellations
We’re afraid that due to the limited enrolment for each workshop and the advanced preparation that is required, bookings are non-refundable. However, if you give us 14 days advance notice, we can transfer your booking to another workshop if space permits or issue you with a credit voucher to redeem at your leisure. You may also send someone in your place if you are unable to attend. We would ask that you advise us of your replacements’ name so we may adjust our information accordingly.
In the event that MakeMe has to cancel a workshop, we will give you as much advance notice as possible. We will offer a credit voucher for you to redeem at your leisure, transfer your booking to another workshop or issue a full refund.
Gift Vouchers
Can I buy gift vouchers?
Yes absolutely – they make a lovely gift. Click here to see all the details.

Miscellaneous
Tutors
All our tutors work for MakeMe on a freelance basis. If you are interested in teaching at MakeMe, please email Melissa. Let us know what you would be interested in teaching, a bit about your background and photographs of some of your recent work if possible (small jpegs please!). Remuneration will be discussed at the interview stage.
Shop
We are pleased to sell various pieces of work by some of our tutors and some equipment to support our workshops. At the moment, we do not sell fabric or wool outside what we provide as part of your workshop fee. In the future, we hope to open a full retail shop to support our workshops.
If you would like your work to be sold at MakeMe, please contact us.
We would be pleased to advise where you can buy quality supplies locally and online.
We also gratefully receive scrap fabric and other unwanted haberdashery for use in recycling/upcycling workshops.
